Empowering Agege for a Brighter Future

Introduction

The journey to a greater Agege begins with a vision rooted in service, development, and inclusion. Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa (AVO) is committed to transforming Agege into a model local government where infrastructure thrives, education is prioritized, healthcare is accessible, and every resident, young or old, has a voice and a stake in the future.

Together, We Can build a Brighter, Better Agege

Quality Education for All :

With 26 public primary schools within our Local Government Area and a growing number of pupils, we will:

  • Strengthen the free school shuttle bus system to reduce transport costs for parents.
  • Provide school bags every academic session and distribute writing materials each term to reduce the financial burden on parents.
  • Renovate and reconstruct dilapidated school buildings, ensuring a conducive learning environment.
  • Ensure no school-age child is left out of the education system.
  • Facilitate regular engagement with teachers and students to promote excellence and accountability in education.
  • Facilitate excellence through spelling B and debate competition, and encourage brilliance through One Day Chairman initiative.

Vocational and Adult Education

To encourage our youth and increase literacy level within the Local Government Area, we will:

  • Expand vocational training programs to include diverse and in-demand skills for residents.
  • Host regular entrepreneurship seminars to connect young people with business opportunities and service users.
  • Introduce adult literacy classes for residents seeking to acquire basic education, regardless of age or background.

Accessible Healthcare for All

Our goal is to provide quality and affordable healthcare across all wards by:

  • Equipping primary healthcare centres with modern medical equipment and essential medications.
  • Introducing a community-based health insurance scheme to serve the poor and vulnerable.
  • Creating a comprehensive social register to effectively plan and execute healthcare delivery.
  • Recruiting additional medical personnel to meet the growing health needs of our residents.
  • Constructing new and upgrading existing healthcare facilities (such that all the wards will be catered for).
  • Introducing special care for the aged and engagement of physiotherapists.
  • Ensuring 24-hour medical delivery services.

Environmental Sustainability

We are committed to a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Agege in all the 7 wards through:

  • Implementation of a comprehensive waste management system.
  • Regular evacuation of drainage silts to prevent flooding and health hazards.
  • Expansion and maintenance of green public spaces.
  • Provision of access to clean and safe water for all residents.
  • Creation of an enforcement team on environmental offences.
  • Sensitization of residents on proper waste management.

Infrastructure Development

Agege Local Government Area comprises 304 streets and 13 major roads, of which 166 (54.6%) streets have already been constructed. Under the AVO administration, we will:

  • Massively construct roads across the 7 wards
  • Install solar-powered streetlights to enhance safety and nighttime visibility.
  • Construct solar-powered boreholes.
  • Renovate and develop market hubs.

Economic Empowerment and Job Creation

To stimulate local economic growth, we will:

  • Support small and medium-scale businesses with financial and technical assistance.
  • Launch a youth employment initiative through public works and community development programs.
  • Promote a digital, transparent revenue collection system to prevent financial leakages
  • Establish creative hubs to enhance skill acquisition and entrepreneurship in the ward

Women and Youth Empowerment

We believe in the power of women and youth and will:

  • Provide training, mentorship, and internship opportunities to build capacity in Information Technology, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
  • Actively involve women and young people in community projects and local governance.
  • Partner with relevant agencies to secure sustainable employment and leadership pathways for our women and youth.
  • Provide special grants to women for economic development.
  • Create opportunities for women.

Sports Development

Sports can shape futures and inspire dreams. Our administration will:

  • Invest in sports infrastructure, including community fields and recreational centres.
  • Initiate Agege Sports Fiesta, Catch Them Young, talent identification.
  • Support budding athletes with the resources and exposure they need to excel.
  • Establish the Agege Local Government Sports Club.

Community Engagement and Good Governance

True leadership listens and acts. Our approach to governance will be:

  • People-centred, inclusive, and transparent.
  • Strengthened through active collaboration with Community Development Associations (CDAs), organised youth, and other stakeholders.
  • Anchored on regular town hall meetings and public accountability reports to ensure the government remains responsive to the people’s needs.

Security and Drug Abuse

We understand the importance of security and the implications of drug abuse. Our administration will:

  • Sensitise and reorient people on the dangers of drugs and possible harms.
  • Construct a rehabilitation centre along with vocational skills to assist victims of drug abuse.
  • Support and work together with the security agencies.
  • Strengthen and support the local crime fighters (Paramole) through training and empowerment.

Training and Capacity Development

Our administration will:

  • Train and develop Local Government employees, council executives, and lawmakers.
  • Provide robust welfare packages for Local Government employees.
